Since 1988, the island is linked to La Rochelle by a 3 km bridge. You will have to pay a fee to cross the bridge.

There are daily connections between Nantes, Bordeaux, Paris-Montparnasse and La Rochelle (“TGV Atlantique”).
The travel between Paris and La Rochelle lasts about three hours.
